Humanitarian Bowl Recap 2009 Idaho vs Bowling Green State

Bronco Stadium was besieged by the Vandals today in support of the 2009 Humanitarian Bowl.

The pregame festivities were filled with as expected activities not uncommon for a typical BSU home game. While the Vandals throng filed in late to the beginning of the game, I thought the stadium filled up better than expected, following the 3-4 inches of snow that plastered the Treasure Valley overnight. Eventually the sun came out, but the wind was a lil bit of annoyance towards the end of the night. The game was pretty close throughout, with the Vandals squandering a 14 point lead in the third quarter. Bowling Green kept throwing the ball and the Idaho defense could not remember to check Freddie Barnes (H Bowl MVP), and eventually ceded the lead with under 35 seconds left in the game. A few hundred Vandal fans (and quite possible the casual local fan) started to head to the parking lot grumbling at their missed chances. The 7 year old youngster sitting behind me, was somewhat upset as his Father explained there was some time for some trickeration and something crazy to occur. I reminded the youngster that crazier things have happened, quietly thinking that the Vandals had lost the game. The ensuing Vandals kickoff was brought out, approximately, to the 40 yard line. Not bad with 2 timeouts left but the ball was in the hands of suspect quarterback, Nathan Enderle. Enderle had a marginal day at best completion-wise but ended up with 4 throwing td's. First down and 60 yards to pay dirt, Enderle rolls to his left, and throws what appeared to be a lucky/underthrown heave but WR Preston Davis comes back for the ball and makes the catch.

Clock winds down into around 16 seconds left and Enderle throws the ball away on the next pass, missing a wr near the goal line- safe play. After a short dump pass down to the 16 yard line, Enderle hits pay dirt to Max Komar (who was much maligned during the first 3 quarters)....and the stadium goes wild.

The next question was if Coach Akey would go for two points and the win with four seconds left ( ala Coach Tormey in 1998). Akey chose to go for it, and I thought they would bull rush BGSU and hand off to power back Woolridge. Instead, Enderle hits a wide open Preston Davis in the back of the end zone, standing all by himself.

The safety jumped the 2 under neath routes and Preston Davis was completely alone. Well executed play and I love the gutsy play call (even though the call was made easier with the Idaho defense being as porous as it was in the second half). Lot of reminders of the BSU 2007 Fiesta Bowl Game...the final score 43-43....the two point try decision/execution. I salute the fans who stormed the field and even more so the security staff that tried to stem the flow of such fans. After the final kickoff/ final play, there was a meek attempt at stopping the field crashers, unfortunately, the security staff tried there best. I will tip my hat to the police men and security staff who showed great restraint....I will blame the Vandals fan for lack of experience in this area of field storming. At the end of the video clip below, you will see the fans gently storm the field from the south endzone....just seemed odd how polite these fans were!

I know this is a PRO-BSU blog and the Vandals are the despised red headed stepchild of the Western Athletic Conference, but if this game did not include the Vandals, this finish would be in my top 5 of all time (at least seen live).

Sidenote I...the ESPN coverage was very favorable towards the Vandals, and they even mentioned the Corner Club in Moscow. Hat tip to ESPN

Sidenote II... 3 Alleged Vandal Fans made their appearance sans shirts and painted their chests in a purple hue, spelling T-C-U....kudos to these kids and their ideas

Sidenote III.... Has anyone stopped/defended Freddie Barnes yet?

Play of the Year....

....for the Broncos of Boise State, I believe is the two point try in the Nevada game, the day after Turkey Day. The second touchdown in the first 7 minutes of the game proved costly. The snap was to Austin Pettis who scrambled around and eventually was taken down 2 yards short of the goal line. While the missed conversion attempt was moderately unimportant, the related injury to Austin Pettis was very significant. Yes, the Broncos rallied to finish off the Wolfpack that night on ESPN, and later the next week, dominate the Aggies of New Mexico State. The Broncos captured the W.A.C. trophy once more, but all along every fan(fanatic) worried about the health of #2. The key receiver in the highest scoring offense was down for perhaps the rest of the year. Surgery for a broken ankle/leg bone was to commence and the chances of the Broncos, remaining undefeated, took a hit. The remaining wide receiver corps, collectively, was banged up and inexperienced. Due to these worries, I think this play could be deemed the Play of the Year.
Yes, one might say, the awesome hit by Winston Venable on Fresno State's Ryan Colburn might qualify. Also in the same game, Titus Young's hustle to recover a fumble in the endzone for a touchdown was also very key. Local Blogmeister/BSU historian, Tom Scott, believes the Billy Winn safety in the Oregon game is clearly the big play.
Here we have the video of the two point play, where Pettis got injured. Somewhat non-descript play....maybe showing Pettis getting up slowly.

Here we have the ESPN announcers discussing the revelation that Pettis could be hurt and the Coach Pete theory of going for two point conversions......

Would love to see Austin Pettis rebound for the BCS game against TCU. Hence, the Christmas wish for Santa dropping off a hyperbaric chamber at his house in hopes of a quicker recovery.

Ho Ho Ho

Merry Christmas to all......and to all a ......(insert whatever you want right here)!
Poor Surfing Santa is empty handed! Hope Santa brought Austin Pettis a much needed hyperbaric chamber!

Coach Poaching?

update....all speculative opinion and no truth to this thought process With the departure of Coach Hauck from Montana to UNLV, and the reported interest of Boise State's Brent Pease***, above, heading to Montana, could there be another BSU coach heading that way? If any dominoes fall into place, I can see this man, below, return to the state of Montana and end up in the Defensive Coordinator position! Just sayin'...but I hope this does not come to fruition, and this is just the eggnog talking!

*** Raise your hand if you knew Pease was from Mountain Home?
In a completely unrelated thought, I think BYU gets rocked tonight....Jacquizz shows up and smashes the Cougs. Beavs 39 Cougs 21

Never want to see this again

While perusing the Red Zone Channel today, there were murmurs of a security issue involving laser pointers being used on the Raiders players in Denver. I clicked the appropriate channel and after the shenanigans were nixed in the crowd, the very next play involved tomfoolery only Tiger Woods would enjoy! Frightful commentary ensues....If you are so inclined, follow Raiders #93. Poor Knownshow Moreno gets no love on this blog.....

Congratulations to Kellen Moore

Finishing 7th is the highest in Boise State history....I will take it. Have no problem with Mark Ingram winning the award. Would have preferred Gerhart or Suh after the last few weeks but ....looking forward, as long as Kellen can stay healthy and keep getting the chance to throw the ball that much, I like his chances on improving on his 7th place finish.

Where are you going to sit?

As for the ticket situation, I got the hall pass to the game ( Thanks Honey) and I have on good authority, a pretty decent seat coming my way. Supposedly the fiesta bowl peeps are saying their allotment is already sold out. Seems to be that is some sort of propaganda to get the tix sell going but then again it can be the complete truth....whatever option you believe, choose wisely.Just want to keep people aware of what is poppin' at the North Shore......here is the live cam....

a must see for old soul surfers and large wave riding fools.......Whenever, you are in doubt remember this.....Eddie Would Go

Metallica occurred last night.....the rundown/ensuing headache.

- Had a dude jump out of the seated area onto my wife and now she has a sore neck...The guy actually landed on some exposed metal stand probably busted some ribs. I hope he had a collapsed lung personally.

-Another guy jumped from the seated area and busted up both of his ankles so he got taped up and assisted by the paramedics....luckily he missed my wife

-made it within 6 feet of the stage and was reincarnating the thrashing head banging motion from the song "One".....and tweaked my knee again. I was done as far as mixing it up and had to watch the last half of the concert from 20 feet from the stage. For those that care, I had the m.r.i. last Friday to determine if I tore my a.c.l. (from a volleyball tweak 2 weeks back). I am impressed with how far m.r.i.'s have come in the last 17 years. What once took an hour, now takes only 20-25 minutes. I am hoping that the initial analysis is just a torn cartilage/meniscus. Head back for the m.r.i. results today.....UPDATED A.C.L. TORN
lousy pic from my crappy cell phone below

- the set list was awesome...ton of new stuff, lot of old stuff from the good days, 3 from the black album that I could do with out, played "Damage Inc." which was a nice treat....and covered Queen's "Stone Cold Crazy".

-The parking lot was packed like never before.....and was also an ice skating rink due to the snow fall that day and the temperatures dropping into single digits. Still well worth it. The floor had some available space but every seat in the house was occupied- my question, how can you not splurge the extra $20 in order to get within a 10 feet of this legendary group.

-The weirdos, all sorts, showed up in droves last night.....it was awesome to see and everyone was stoked when they left the show.

- If anyone wants to submit their videos or pics of the show, email to statueleft@hotmail.com thanks in advance

-Lars was his annoying self, James was his sober self and playing the circus master, Kirk seemed melancholy or uninterested ( he even screwed up his own solo/doodle- and he smiled when he did it)...but my main man, Robert Trujillo, was on point all night.

pic from statesman

- Before Metallica came on stage...maybe 15 minutes before, a lil girl was brought up on stage. She looked to be about 5-6 yrs old and she got to sit in the drumset and she her picture taken...the crowd ate it up. Speculation that the child was roadie/stage hand's daughter or it cold have been a Camp Rainbow/Make a Wish situation but it was fun to see the lil girl's devil horns and beautiful smile.

-Worse part of the night was the crowd was getting antsy and they started the wave...the freaking wave. For about 5 minutes......not to proud of that!

#1 Metallica Guaranteed to have a sore neck tomorrow!

Pick what time frame they played the best......With all due respect to Cliff Burton, the high school cover band that played "Whiplash", high school football players listening to " Seek and Destroy" before the big game, and whatever other song that populate your ears through your lives.....

I will say the quality of video and sound has increased tremendously over the years.....enjoy!

2009 Fiesta Bowl Gear here.....

Link.....but there is a small problem with the logo! Maybe this is who some of the fans wanted to be in this year's Fiesta Bowl game?
Espn take on the rematch

Crystal Ball looks like TCU-BSU in the Fiesta Bowl

First thing I think of is....
- this will decide the best non-AQ team in the land...yippeee
- Revenge is a strong motivating factor for the Broncos
- I am thankful for that dang Texas kicker for making the long field goal and helping the Broncos chances of getting into a BCS bowl game.

Bottom Line- BSU is in another BCS game...I will take it. The match up is just not as sexy as I would have hoped. Would not mind winning a bowl game as well ( I would have liked our chances against the 1950's style of football that Iowa still plays)!

Look for a podcast to come here in the next week with a blogger/rep from the TCU squad...

The Tim Tebow Lovefest justed faded to black

Pic compliments of the Statesman
While this is the second best Metallica song ever, there were more important events occurring tonight.

This Texas kicker just made a hard kick look easy and defeated a pesky, scrappy Huskers squad ( great job by Ndamukong Suh) - Hunter Lawrence will never have to pay for a Lone Star Beer in the Republic of Texas again. Would love to see TCU play Bama in the National Championship game, but that is not going to happen! The Florida Tebows should play Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl. TCU vs Cincy in the Sugar.....so that leaves (most likely) Iowa as the opponent for the Broncos in early January.

At the risk of sounding like a fair weather fan, am I the only who thought that it would be easier if BSU did not get selected to a BCS bowl game, that way I did not have to do honeydew's from now til the Fiesta Bowl? Trust me I am stoked about the good fortunes but now I have to worry about potential time off work, cost of air transportation ( ranging if I get the plane tix tomorrow for $400, wait a week and it could be up to $500) .....oh well, it will be well worth it!

Great job by the two headed running monster of Avery and Martin....good to see the teammates splitting reps and enthusiasm! Pic compliments of the Statesman

Speaking of rushing attempts, the Aggies tried to run out the clock from the middle of the third quarter on.....boring the Broncos defense to sleep did not work. Could have something to with the pitiful play calling but also the serious leg injury to Aggies QB Jeff Fleming. The minor connection for Fleming to BSU? He was the High School QB for Boise State's #85 Tommy Gallarda. Pictured below is theleft leg injury in question...ouch!Pic compliments of the Statesman
About the only bad news to report from today's 42-7 curbstomp over New Mexico State, was the bad snap by the Broncos leading to a easy drive by the Aggies to give up the shutout/point spread...but more importantly, that on Senior Day of all days, WR Michael Choate look to have suffered a serious leg injury...ugh!Heal up dude!

Also in the news, this blogger believes the Heisman order goes Gerhart, McCoy, Ingram, Tebow, Kellen Moore. All but Moore gets invited to NYC for the presentation.

The next Notre Dame coach.......I can see Urban Meyer leaving especially after the disappointing loss to Bama, but I will stick with Cincy's Brian Kelly as the replacement for Chuck Weiss. Florida has better weather, coeds and plenty of awesome players in their backyard. As for Bob Stoops, he states that he is not the next coach but Nick Saban has made those kind of statements as well. If Stoops heads to South Bend, maybe he is trying for the challenge of being the Savior of Notre Dame football. I can see the same thing out of Urban Meyer as well...still sticking with Brian Kelly as of right now!

#3 Metallica Song ever

BTW it is also Senior Day...Brockel, Day, Silsby, Choate and a kid that goes by the name of Wilson, who will be matriculating out of the Boise State program.....thanks for the winning records/charitable efforts volunteered for in the loca area.

6 days remaining.....

...till Metallica arrives in the Treasure Valley for the first time since March, 2004.
I should preface this lil list that I refuse to include anything off the "Black" or "Load" or "Re-load" or "St. Anger" albums...Plenty of fans hopped off the bandwagon since summer of 1991 when the Black album came out. Luckily the most recent album, September 2008's Death Magnetic recaptured some of the 80's metal that had been missing. Going off that premise, there is no way a single song from the aforementioned albums would be included in the top 7 songs performed by Metallica. They just do not hold a candle to early Metallica. Will go out on a limb for next selection since technically it is a cover song. Nonetheless, it rocks harder than any song that has come out over the last 16 plus years. I will give some leeway with songs off of Death Magnetic such as "All Nightmare Long" or "Cyanide" or "The Day That Never Comes".

However for this installment, which is like picking who your favorite son/daughter is, I have chosen a cover of Diamondhead's " Am I Evil?"

Also in the news, look for a podcast to be embedded here in the next 24 hours....BNP Podcast will include local media opinion giver, Troy Oppie ( who explains his disagreement on having Pettis on the 2 point try and the timing of it). Also BNP Podcast listeners will get an additional 20% from Dec 2-4 for listening at the Blue Orange Store- thanks to BSU Fan and owner Travis Hawkes.

7 Days until....

Metallica comes to Boise! Will be kicking off the 7 best songs performed (and available on youtube) and displaying the songs on this here blog.

#7 Added this vid, mainly for the fans that occupied Tushino Airfield, but also this entrance and following song, Creeping Death, are very worthy.

This will cause mass discussion amongst you blog observers, the likes this lil blog has never seen before, but fear not. This New Mexico State game coming up is rather boring and I am unaware of any way to spread any sort of upset hysteria. The Aggies have fired Hal Mumme ( last winter) and have not scored against BSU in 2 years. So what do they do...they hire a defensive minded coach. Awesome choice.....

Also, in the news, Austin Pettis- please borrow Terrell Owen's hyperbaric chamber and heal up. See you in the Fiesta Bowl.

Ready for football to start at 9AM in the Mountain Time Zone...
Rutgers VS L'Ville on ESPN2
Temple VS Ohio on ESPNU ( Directv still does not carry ESPNU in HD, dang it)

Followed by Cincy taking on Illinois on your local ABC channel.
Later on, you have the IRON Bowl with Bama and Auburn- heads up on the upset here on CBS.
Blackshirts Cornhuskers take on a meek Colorado squad following the Cincy game on ABC.
If that is not enough tailgating, pre-BSU game info...there is always the Memphis vs the underachieving Tulsa showdown on CBSCHHD Directv 613
Almost forgot the Wyoming vs Colo. State game on the THE MTN in HD...if that is your persuasion....

Only negative about the BSU game tonight being on ESPN2 at 8:15pm locally is that it follows the Backyard Brawl, which hopefully does not last too long.

Enjoy this wondrous day...hopefully not putting up Christmas lights but watching football and preparing for harvesting a Wolf from Nevada!

Lastly, I agree that Colt McCoy secured the Heisman Trophy

Happy Turkey Day Peeps

Headed into another tryptophan-induced coma later today with the in-laws....and can not wait.

Was unable to join the lads on the latest podcast ( link here), as I was attempting my first game of volleyball since high school, and was unable to make it. The plan was for a calm/relaxing, get-back-in-the-swing-of-things rhythm, followed by a even more lazy game of basketball. Well, on the very first spike attempt, which just so happened to be the first time that lil wicked volleyball was put in play, this basement dwelling blogger had a chance at testing his leaping abilities...The perfect pass, perfect set....perfect spike ( for a point) and then blam!!!!! SNAP......

soundboard.com

Down Goes Frazier, Down Goes Frazier, Down Goes Frazier

So the old left knee went out and I heard a pop as I fell to the ground...I writhed in pain, praying it was not a broken leg bone, puncturing my skin. Once I felt the leg and found out that it was indeed intact, I immediately felt like I tore my a.c.l. ( all the while praying it was just some damaged cartilage/meniscus). Unfortunately, in 1992 I endured an a.c.l. injury on my right knee so I was not excited for this incident to repeat itself.....
Nevertheless, due to the local doctor's office being in Thanksgiving mode, I am unable to meet up with the knee doc until Monday after this very long 4 day weekend. While my knee continues to stiffen, I suddenly realize I am out for an extended amount of time including volleyball/basketball season and most importantly the Turkey Day Bowl Game! I am devastated..... Have been working on my swim move coming out of the new 4-2-5 defense the squad has been working on in recent days. Time for the next over 30 yr old to "Cowboy Up" and rush the quarterback like Lawrence Taylor did when I was a kid.

Now, back to the important part of the weekend....Nevada vs BSU on the Blue, in mid 30 degrees weather. Should be dry....for all of my East Coast friends who like to have action on the game....Tuna, that one is for you! The spread is around 13-14 points....I find that to be a high amount. The last two games have been exciting, especially the 4 overtime squeaker in 2007. BSU LB Tim Brady save the day with a sack in the 4 OT against Colin Kaepernick, who was a true freshman that year. Very exciting game and probably after the 1998 BSU Idaho Game, and maybe the 1994 BSU Marshall Game, that was the most exciting BSU home game that I have been too....It was very cold that night in late 2007, and I am expecting mid 30's temps for this game as well.
As for some tailgating ideas....
1)there is an OBNUG tailgate party going on,
2)the players are continuing/starting a new tradition of the players walk ( Bronco Stampeded/Bronco Walk) - where the players finish up their pregame meal from the Student Union Building down to the road to the Stadium/locker room. This player walk will start at 4:55pm....and I believe the band might be there, so bring the kiddies!
Link from Statesman...wish this was advertised a lil bit more
QUICK HITS

About 200 tickets remain in the south end zone for the Nevada game. É The color scheme is alternating sections of blue and orange - odd sections, the south end zone and the student section wear orange, while even sections and the north end zone wear blue. É The Broncos will walk from the Student Union Building through the crowd to the stadium at 4:55 p.m. on game day.

3)My peeps over near the lil White Church will be going off as well as the peeps just north of the scoreboard in the old grass practice field. If you see a gimpy intoxicated man, do not automatically think of me....

As for the game itself, the trendy pick with the national media is to go with the resurgent Wolfpack but until someone beats the champ, they are still the champ!

I think this game will be closer than anticipated and too close for my viewing comfort. I see the score falling Boise State's way 52-49, and quite possibly in 3 OT's......I agree with most fans, that it might be tough to completely rein in the three headed rushing dragon known as Kaepernick, Lippincott ( Wolfpack's answer to yesteryear's Vandal Joel Thomas), and Vai. That being said, the Wolfpack offense is reliant on the running game primarily/successfully. Unfortunately when Kellen Moore hits a wide receiver/ tight end target twice in the first quarter, and forces Kaepernick to throw the ball, that plays right into the hands of D-Cord Wilcox's hands...At least I can dream this!!!!

Stay warm, stay healthy ( properly stretch those muscles out if you engage in some pigskin tomfoolery later today) and remind yourself that if you are reading this blog post, we have it pretty lucky in this country. Also avoid the made up holiday known as Black Friday!

Email your pictures statueleft@hotmail.com , feel free to leave a comment on your scoreboard prediction.....

Also, word to the wise....when you are in your mid thirties and you are thinking about getting back on the hardwood for volleyball or basketball, slow down and stick to podcasting....it will do a body good!

Pre-Vandal Podcast and prediction

Sorry for the delay in the highly anticipated Podcast...JT and Vandal season ticketer OBNUG INTERN partake in the verbal melee...enjoy my rambkings and mumbling!

Pic from Drew @OBNUG

While some readers might ponder that I have hit the rum early today, I beg your forgiveness. Perhaps it is the nauseating smell of mothballed Vandal fan's clothing, fresh from being in the bottom of the closet/storage unit all year? Please do not stalk and hunt down this basement-dwelling blogger. Throw away the argument of poor scheduling and live in the now! Today is the big rivalry game and all guns should be blazing!

While it might be sacrilege for a Broncos fan to state this on the record, but I can see the Vandals leading at halftime....something like 21-14. Coach Akey should also be the Coach of the Year- sans Cincinnati's Brian Kelly. However by halftime, the initial confidence and out-of-this-world testerone levels of the Vandals will turn to putty under vicious and relentless defensive pursuit and the constant harassment by the immaculate decision making of Kellen Moore. I base my halftime score on the Vandals controlling the clock by multiple first downs on the first few series. The running game will mirror the attack of Fresno State, where Ryan Matthews emulated Jim Brown or Gale Sayers, breaking long touchdown runs( or going untouched). Or perhaps, the Vandals will just keep dinking and dunking down the field on third down in order to keep Kellen Moore and the high scoring offense away from the end zone. That being said, it all turns to muck in the second half. The snow that fell last night will be a non-issue. The absence of Shea McClellin will hurt at some point but hopefully the front 5-6 collectively will get the job done over the long haul.

The game ends up 38-21.....should be a frosty game, luckily there will be plenty of antifreeze in the tailgating area to keep everyone warm. Remember who these scumbags Vandals are, and where the hatred comes from. Do not forget the taunting of Pokey Allen, a few weeks before his death, especially after a fake punt was called by Joel Thomas ( who now coaches up at UDUB). I truly hope the score is out of hand in the first quarter but I just do not see it that way. There is generations of hate here in the state for this game, do your share to root on the Broncos. Punish the Dog Ass Vandals- seek Tom Scott for the origination of that term!

Want to also send some good luck mojo to the bipolar Utes in their battle against TCU tonight. Maybe TCU loses for the second yr in a row against the UTES, this time TCU being the 19 point favorite.
Enjoy football for what it is and Go Broncos! Stop Vandalism!

Is this Al Borges?

Great pics in this minute slice of history in the U of I/ BSU rivalry game......Can you find yourself in any of these pics? Hat Tip to the Statesman for putting these out there.....

Is that Idaho Statesman's Mike Prater ( white pants, pink press pass), on the left, in pic #45?
On a serious note, I want to send a big Thank You to all of the troops, past and present, for their service!

My Grandfather, who just passed, was a engineer on one these landing crafts in the Pacific during the Bougainville landing. Had another Grandfather serve in WWII and the Korean War. Father served in Vietnam as well as my 2 uncles being lifer military men. God Bless them all!

Sunday, November 8, 2009

At least Mark Scott and Tom Scott have not done this...

....or the guys/gals in the truck in the parking lot- check the 1:08 mark

The Vandals could not keep up their end of the bargain ( or at least make it interesting) and ESPN Gameday will be going to theTCU UTAH game this coming weekend. Maybe the Vandals were smart and did not want to ruin a good thing brewing up on the Palouse, by having Gameday come and display the Vandals shortcomings against the Broncos!

Post San Jose State / Pre LA Tech Podcast

click the link of the middle of this hishhash to listen to the podcast- This basement blogger will work on the html later today

My prediction is 35-7....Broncos overcome a 14-0 halftime lead to really get going and chew up the clock in the second half. Keep the ball in the best player's hands for the second half.....Have Kellen dink and dunk for 3 end zone tosses by the beginning of the 4th quarter!

Only in baseball....

.....does the announcer admit to some natural flatulence- live on air!
Of course, it was David Wells.....MUTE the music on the right sidebar and listen to the clip about 20 seconds in !( HT Deadspin)

Also in the news, Broncos are ranked prematurely #4 in the BCS Standings- just keep taking care of business and it will all wash out in the end!
PS Vandals, you keep snickering at the above video and keep winning while you are it ( I guess)!

P.S.S. When did Chase Utley start suffering from Steve Sax disease? In related news,Ethier goes deep and wins the ballgame for the Dodgers

This week's version of the Podcast

Joined by J from Sports2night, Vandal-lovin' Obnug Intern, and the host JT from BNP

My random guess at this score of the upcoming offensive boatrace will end up 40-30 visitors.... Broncos need to avoid 3 and out's on offense ( and bad center-qb snap mistakes) and keep the highly vaunted Broncos defense off the turf to avoid getting run ragged wih Tulsa's high octane offense.

The Wisdom of Coach Pete

The only idea I can think of, is that Coach Pete purposefully had the Broncos unfocused and non-physical against Div. 1AA foe U.C. Davis so that the Broncos could regain their mojo against a very dangerous Tulsa Hurricane squad. How else do you explain the let down at Bronco Stadium? The result was okay, a meager 18 point win will suffice but the bragging rights of BSU being ranked in the Top 5 nationally is in serious jeopardy. I will take the 18 point win any day of the week, especially with the Houston Cougars reeling in defeat to a non-plus UTEP program. Hopefully the east coast media will just see the final score rather than actually watching this debacle that was actually closer than what the final score represented.

Last year, Tulsa ran the ball a ton and still managed to get 75+ plays on offense per game. Their offensive architect, Gus Malzahn, has moved on to resurrect the Auburn program but the Tulsa offense is still lead by competent Herb Hand. While the QB talent for Tulsa has receded, the high speed no huddle offense can be dangerous. This is the game that scares me the most for rest of the year. An away game in Tulsa, on a Wednesday, on Espn! Danger Will Robinson! Tulsa is scarier that the Nevada squad that put up 700+ yards of offense. Tulsa is scarier than the resurrected Vandals- nice win at home over MWC foe Colorado State.

That being said, Chris Peterson's team has always come up prepared and ready for the challenged ( outside of the last 4 out of 5 bowl games). I am sure Coach Pete's grand plan to regain the full attention of the Broncs players has been accomplished. Now it is time for this master plan to come to fruition.

* Last night as I left the stadium, I was expecting to blog how embarrassing I thought the lack of push by the offensive line ( in the red zone) and the lack of blitzing/pressure by the defense. I then saw Houston getting curbstomped by UTEP and I thought life could be much worse.

** Where was the QB sneak from the one yard line in the first quarter? Was the worry of Kellen Moore taking a hit to the head potentially enough to call for two running plays- that both got stuffed by an undersized defensive line? The go to play on the goal line is now the fade to Pettis? That performance last night gave all the pundits/critics more ammo when it comes to lil Ol' Boise State is overrated and play in a weak conference. That being said, I will take the 18 point victory as the Cougars from Houston see their BCS hopes dashed. Now I hope that TCU finds a way to lose in Provo against those Cougs!

*** IDSTATESMAN has a ton of pics from the game last night right here

I will leave you with this....never doubt Coach Pete...and stay classy!!!!

Three Weeks of Podcasting and One Lousy Home Game Out of 48 Days

div>

Here we have another edition of the Podcast featuring discussions of last week's demolition of Bowling Green and the future bloodbath against the Aggies of UC Davis ....question of the days is-
Would you rather Coach Pete run up the score against the Aggies or keep it classy and keep the score within +50 points so he does not embarass his alma mater.

Visit JT at BNP and Obnug Intern at twitter ....... Also think Idaho will lose 35-14 to Colorado St. Mike Coughlin will have his best day as Bronco this Saturday during Homecoming Week. Hope Southwick stays on the sideline and the same goes to Malcolm Johnson. Could we see Kirby Moore see his first Touchdown reception? The over/under on Bacon sizzling jokes this weekend at +/- 3.5!
Stay healthy Broncos......and RUTS! I will forecast a 63-0 bloodbath!

Two Weeks in A Row...another podcast

JT from BNP and Obnug Intern from the Obnug message boards are discussing the missed tackles during the Fresno game, the D.J. Harper injury and how thick Winston Venable is. Also briefly mentioned is the impending Bowling Green Falcons matchup featuring QB Tyler Sheehan.

Click on the BroncoNationPodcast link to listen!

I am venturing a 58-14 BSU beatdown....only way the score is lower is if B.G. dinks and dunks down the field and wastes time and keeps Kellen and his soldiers off the battlefield.

Legarrette Blount Tribute?

Will be watching the recap of the BSU game from this past weekend and while we have seen plenty of big plays, I will look for the weird, wacky and unknown!

Before #25 Hunter White made the opening kick off tackle, I noticed this interesting tidbit on the wrist tape job of the aforementioned #25. Dare I say a nod to Legarette Blount? Highly doubtful being 2 weeks post brouhaha, but you never know!

What Football/Sports are all about?

Props to Barstool Sports for the link

Freshman Matt Ziesel scores a touchdown against Maryville. Below is a little write-up from the Ziesel family for those of you not familiar with Matt: Matt is a special athlete who has Down Syndrome. He loves football and has grown up in an environment surrounded by sports. His father is a coach/ athletic director, and all his siblings play sports. He grew up at athletic events, and has always been a cheerleader. He registered as a freshman at Benton High School -Saint Joseph, MO this year, and told his mother and father he wanted to play football. The team takes good care of looking after Matt, and he is still the cheerleader on the sidelines. He puts his pads and helmet on, stands next to Coach McCamy and waits for his turn to play. Over and over during the course of the game Matt will say, “Coach McCamy, I am ready! I am ready Coach!” On this Monday night coach gave him a chance. The Cardinals were down by a few touchdowns with 15 seconds left. Coach McCamy called a timeout and asked the coach of Maryville High School if they could run their “Matt Play”. He agreed and this is where the video begins. Thanks to Coach McCamy and the freshman coach at Maryville, Matt and his family will cherish his moment forever!

Anywhere, Anyone, Anytime...yep, its Fresno week

The above podcast reflects JT from BroncoNationPodcast, Obnug Intern and myself genuflecting on last week's dominant performance against the Miami not of Florida. Logan from the Fresno State side of things, also gets involved on the podcast and throws in his two cents...

The Future

My thoughts are that the Broncs will defeat the Bulldogs of Fresno State 30-21. Hard fought game....
The scariest thing is where is the annual hype for the Fresno Squad? There is no such preseason hype and this might allow the Bulldogs to recapture that blue collar chip on the shoulder that the Central Cali kids might need. Coach Pat Hill is truly capturing the underdog role right now and had a legit chance at upsetting Wisconsin last week. In my eyes, the Bulldogs ruined their chances in upsetting the Badgers and could not finish. Will that tough road loss reflect on their tough battle against the #10 ranked Broncs? This is why they play the game....
Predictions- Kellen has his usual 2 throws that reach pay dirt, one to Shoemaker and one to a tight end- pick one, any one of them but probably Gallarda. The other two will be rushing by any of the three headed hydra known as Avery-Harper-Martin. The remaining two points will come via the safety route by a sack from Glass Joe Hout (I still think 99.9% of Americans would have buckled like Glass Joe after the cheap shot by Blount. I am surprised Blount has not transferred to a Junior College in order to keep playing.)
As for the nickname of the Boise State Defense.....BluNami was the one selected by BroncoCountry.com members....the Statesman has some sort of contest mimicking the challenge for submitted entries for the Defense to have a nickname. Not sure I care as much as the production continues like it has been.

Enjoy the game....and if you attend the game, watch you back for skanks and shanks!

Legarrette Blount is a Punk Bitch

Oregon head coach must be really proud that his first game as Oregon head coach ends up with the best smack/hit is by his non-existent running back sucker punching a Bronco after the game. High class in Autzen. Embarrassing as a program and as a head coach. Anything less than Blount being kicked off the team is an even more embarrassment to the Phil Knight Ducks. Video to follow.....if Youtube does not ban it!

If it walks like a Duck......

The old gang got together for one more attempt at reaching interplanetary success or at least North American Dominance, and created another version of a podcast- focusing on BSU v. Oregon. Thanks to JT at BroncoNationPodcast for hooking up the 1's and 2's, and Drew from OBUNG for still pimpin' after all these years.....

Cliff notes version, I am venturing a guess of 35-30 victory towards the Broncos way...However I am really worried about the revenge/motivation factor from the Ducks. It is difficult to beat a Top-15 team in back to back years.....It will be a battle of epic proportions, just ask the hype machine that is revolving around this game. I will say Kellen throws 3 td's, Avery and Harper have a running td each. Please send your best Ducks Crashing pics/cliches and I will gladly place them on this blog.

Sidenote- Enjoyed a ridiculous weekend in Vegas for our Fantasy Football Draft....If you can imagine, it happened. Yes, the movie The Hangover was a goal and in some people's eyes we accomplished what we set it out to do. If you ever need to stay at ( or near) the Bellagio, I discovered a lovely timeshare-influenced place called the Jockey Club. Do not bother googling it, just take a flyer and decide to stay there on a whim next time. Can not beat the price of admission......
The main reason we headed down there was for a fantasy football draft....which lead to chicanery and debauchery ( not to mention a visit to Rehab- in which we saw ESPN's Matthew Berry hanging out at- and a few other Vegas clubs). I was voted as having the single worst draft, which was not the worst thing I was voted on having all weekend.....That being said, I did throw a parlay with BSU -5, Utah -20.5, and Nevada +14 .....hopefully this will hit really big and I can win back a 1/10 of what I spent down there. Hate to end it on a negative note but if smell/see/taste a f'ing red bull again, I will self implode.
